Curse of the Sea Rats è un gioiellino davvero niente male, che potrebbe diventare indimenticabile per molti. Citazionistico quanto basta verso grandi opere del passato, è un metroidvania fresco e senza diventare mai troppo punitivo, permettendo al giocatore di imparare dai propri errori e sfruttare i suoi punti di forza al meglio. Un'avventura che non cerca strade complicate aggiungendo arzigogoli vari, ma che in poche e semplici mosse risulta divertente e concreto, soprattutto se giocato in compagnia con gli amici in modalità cooperativa. I disegni a mano regalano alla vista quel pizzico di piacere in più, con una fluidità niente male e dei colori che richiamano alla mente i bei momenti dell'infanzia. Rattosamente affascinante!

Curse of the Sea Rats é um excelente metroidvania com uma boa progressão e exploração do mapa. A história acaba ficando meio que em segundo plano, com alguns poucos momentos de desenvolvimento. A falta de legendas em português afastará algumas pessoas, mas o combate compensa. Os gráficos são muito bons e bem feitos, especialmente alguns dos chefes. Se estiver procurando um jogo para passar algumas horas, dê uma chance para esse excelente título.

While I still have to hand the title to ninjas, Curse of the Sea Rats definitely revitalized my love for pirate lore a bit more. It’s far from perfect, but will satisfy your itch for this style of game, and the animations and music will make it very worth your while. I love it when a game feels fresh and familiar at the same time, and I’m definitely looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

Curse of the Sea Rats has a familiar approach to gameplay, with platforming pushing exploration and combat that can be tricky but satisfying in victory. Players will die a lot but even boss fights are mostly fair as long as players are willing to observe and learn.

The narrative offers a decent if not impressive scaffolding for the action. Metroidvania has become a very popular genre. Curse of the Sea Rats understands that and executes on its ideas well but with limited innovation.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a 2D platformer adventure game in which you fight enemies and upgrade your abilities while searching for the evil pirate witch who turned your party into rats. Exploring new areas and defeating the witch's crew is fun throughout the course of the game, and is definitely worth a play-through for those patient enough to deal with its difficulty.

El estudio catalán consigue plasmar con acierto la esencia del género, lo coge y lo adapta a su visión con un juego creativo y divertido por partes iguales. Sólido en prácticamente todo lo que sabe hacer bien, con algunos elementos a mejorar.

Sin lugar a dudas, Curse of the Sea Rats es un buen juego metroidvania. Jugar en solitario supone un reto bastante desafiante, y hacerlo con hasta tres amigos más en modo local es divertido. Si bien no es un juego perfecto, nos ha dejado un buen sabor de boca gracias a un estilo artístico muy original que se complementa con una experiencia algo básica pero más que decente.

Tenéis un juego que os hará pasar unas buenas horas solos o en compañía, mientras disfrutáis de una genial aventura repleta de acción, humor y mucho arte en movimiento. ¿Os subís al barco, o tenéis miedo de convertiros en ratas?

I initially disliked Curse of the Sea Rats, but the more I kept at the game, the more it hooked me, and I ended up enjoying myself. The barrier to entry may be a little high for some players with difficult combat and messy hit detection. But once you level up a few times and play around with the characters, you should be able to settle in a style that suits you. This is made all the more enticing by being able to pay with three other loved ones locally. Something rarely seen in adventure games. The design and animations are excellent and make for a nice cherry on top of the experience. If you’re looking for a solid 2D adventure to play alone or with loved ones, this pirate trip will surely keep you busy for a few game nights. Wearing a pirate outfit for the experience is optional.

Offering a fun piratical adventure, excellent animation and a fun, engaging story with full voice acting, Curse of the Sea Rats is a great single or multiplayer romp despite some stumbling blocks.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a comfortable, unique Metroidvania game with a good story, characters, and stunning aesthetics. It lacks challenge and a difficulty selector, but supports up to four-player couch co-op, so you can save the Admiral's son together.

Curse of the Sea Rats is, ultimately, a great game held back from even higher greatness by some of the design decisions that were implemented. It could have had a better start, and some of the mechanics could have been tweaked ever so slightly, but once you get into it, it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s probably better in co-op though. So, if you get a chance to do that, go for it. It’s likely to be a great few hours spent with a couple of friends.

Curse of the Sea Rats ne fait rien de bien neuf, à part un mode multi-joueur local à 4 plutôt drôle, mais tout ce qu'il fait, il le fait très bien. Grand par la taille, et réussi en tous points, c'est un jeu qui mérite de se retrouver dans la ludothèque de tout fan du genre. Pour les autres, la difficulté pourrait être un peu élevée, mais la dimension RPG du titre permet d'y remédier en échange d'un peu de temps, grâce à des objets et une montée de niveau facile. Et avec sa présentation si réussie, tant les graphismes que la musique que l'écriture, vous fera y revenir sans aucun doute. C'est aussi beau que bon, et on ne peut que souris-re... ok j'arrête.

Un juego ideal para las vacaciones o los fines de semana con toda la familia es Curse of the Sea Rats. Y no porque sea un juego de desarrollo español, si no porque es una gran sorpresa. Es un Ratoidvania que sabe aprovechar sus puntos fuertes. Es un reto constante y satisfactorio. Tenemos que recomendarlo porque nos ha encantado y lo hemos disfrutado mucho.

Curse of the Sea Rats benefits a lot from its nice looking cartoon graphics, the well done voice acting and by staying true to the Metroidvania genre at least in most aspects. There are also a lot of optional secrets to find with many references to game classics like Monkey Island, Worms or The Legend of Zelda. The major weak spot is the combat system, that largely fails of being satisfying and well balanced.

Curse of the Sea Rats es un título más que interesante, que a pesar de sus fallos (destacados en el sistema de combate y en la historia, siendo ambos poco profundos) consigue establecerse como un metroidvania absolutamente original y creativo. Su inclusión de un modo multijugador es efectiva, presentando una vertiente pocas veces vista en el género que le sienta como anillo al dedo. A nivel visual es una gozada, y sus animaciones hechas a mano se disfrutan desde los primeros compases del juego. Una experiencia muy recomendable, que recompensa especialmente a quienes juegan en grupo.

Curse of the Sea Rats is above all a very fun game, easily recommended to be played alone or with friends. With a light theme and full of good pirate stories, it should please fans of action and platform games of all ages. But, as a metroidvania, it falls a little short of the good options currently available in the market.

The Curse of the Sea Rats segna un importante passo di maturazione per il team di sviluppo catalano. Attingendo dal mondo dei metroidvania, il titolo propone un'avventura solida e divertente con un buon numero di contenuti, graziata da un character design che omaggia il mondo dell'animazione di fine anni '80. Nonostante le ottime qualità, la produzione scivola in un eccessivo tradizionalismo senza riuscire a fornire quel qualcosa in più che fa la differenza tra un risultato buono ed uno ottimo. Anche scelte intriganti come i personaggi multipli e la possibilità di affrontare l'avventura in cooperativa non risultano pienamente sfruttate. Tuttavia, il titolo resta una valida alternativa all'interno del genere di riferimento, che auspichiamo sia solo l'inizio di un nuovo percorso per Petoons Studio.

Curse of the Sea Rats es un juego muy recomendable para cualquiera que acostumbre a disfrutar de los numerosos metroidvania que llegan cada mes al mercado. Sin grandes alardes ni necesidad de inventar la rueda, el título de Petoons Studio ofrece una experiencia muy satisfactoria, a la que no le sienta nada mal el ligero toque RPG en lo que a progresión se refiere. Si te gusta el género, lo más probable es que lo disfrutes de inicio a fin.

Curse of the Sea Rats est une bonne surprise, teasée depuis plusieurs semaines. La promesse d’un metroidvania avec des rats est pleinement remplie. Le jeu séduit par de nombreux aspects, notamment sa direction artistique et son multi local 4 joueurs, trop rare, mais des plus plaisants de nos jours. Par contre, ne pensez pas partir en promenade de santé, le jeu réserve son lot de challenge et de passages ardus. Une carte est là pour vous indiquer le pourcentage dévoilé et quelques zones d’intérêt. Dommage qu’il manque des indications sur la présence de certains personnages. Bref, une bonne petite surprise à partager avec des amis amateurs du genre.

Curse of the Sea Rats est un bon metroidvania qui tire son épingle du jeu : les quatre personnages qu’on contrôle offrent une belle variété de gameplay. La réalisation à la main est un coup de coeur, entre les personnages/ennemis dessinés et les portraits des différents personnages. On regrettera une carte peu lisible par manque d’icônes ou de marqueurs. Également, la durée de vie est relativement courte malgré les quêtes annexes pour lesquelles on perdra beaucoup de temps à retrouver le donneur de quête.

Le titre de Petoons Studio ne passera pas à l’histoire comme étant un incontournable dans le genre. Sa facilité et le manque d’innovation font en sorte qu’il ne se différencie pas de la masse. Cependant, on ne peut leur reprocher l’excellent travail visuel qu’ils ont fait pour Curse of the Sea Rats. Le titre possède une âme unique pour cette raison et vous donnera un petit sourire en coin à plus d’une occasion. Et le fait de pouvoir y jouer à plusieurs est un plus! Bref, Curse of the Sea Rats est un bon titre pour la famille ou pour une personne qui désire un défi réalisable, sans tracas.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a perfectly fine Metroidvania effort. The hand-drawn art is gorgeous for the most part and the combat together with the platforming are both well executed and ultimately satisfying. However coupled with the absence of some odd quality of life features, a general lack of polish and a lack of any real ambition, Curse of the Sea Rats arguably struggles to elevate itself in an increasingly competitive genre filled with top-tier efforts.

Despite jarring bugs and inconsistencies, Curse of the Sea Rats is a well-designed game with a clear direction. Petoons Studio succeeded in making an accessible Metroidvania that can be enjoyed by gamers of varied skill levels. Its art, simplicity, and smoothly escalating challenge make it a great way to introduce a younger audience to the genre. If the rough edges are smoothed away, a real gem lies beneath.

What I’m saying is that I’m not entirely sure who is going to enjoy Curse of the Sea Rats. I do know that there’s going to be an audience out there for it, because while it has several issues it also has many redeeming qualities. However, when it’s one of a few million Metroidvanias that are already on the Switch, I fear that Sea Rats will struggle to find that audience, despite being a clear passion project from everyone involved.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a good game for those who want to get into the Metroidvania genre or don't have too high demands on the technical implementation. Veterans, on the other hand, might still lack the final touch, especially in direct comparison with the genre classics. Otherwise, Curse of the Sea Rats is quite entertaining with about 12 hours of gameplay and a detailed world.

Como metroidvania está muy bien construido con una isla llamativa que guarda muchos secretos. Lamentablemente la dificultad con picos exagerados o la jugabilidad que puede jugarnos malas pasadas son sus pequeñas manchas. Con el tiempo el juego estará completamente pulido y será un título de los mejores de su género sin ninguna duda. Ahora nos queda esperar una secuela para darle más profundidad a un lore interesante y que pide a gritos una continuación.

I wish I could rate this higher. I honestly had a fun time playing through Curse of the Sea Rats, but the issues I encountered were significant. On top of balance issues and voice line deliveries, I also stumbled across a few bugs here and there including one that basically broke most of the ending. Again the refrain goes, they’re aware and fixing issues, but I can merely hope the patch irons out every last detail.

Sans véritable fausse note, sans véritable nouveauté non plus, Curse of the Sea Rats est une aventure plutôt agréable dans l'univers de la piraterie, avec 4 petits personnages attachants, prêts à faire ce qu'il faut pour atteindre leurs objectifs tout en aidant leurs prochains pour retrouver leur propre liberté. Le chemin s'avère néanmoins un peu redondant, avec des allers-retours passablement longs et nécessaires malgré des portes magiques qui permettent le voyage rapide. Les combats sont nombreux, et s'ils peuvent être délicats à l'arrivée sur le soft, ils deviennent de plus en plus accessibles grâce à des arbres de compétences qui permettent aux petits rats de devenir bien plus forts qu'au démarrage. L'aventure se veut globalement bien réalisée, avec de jolis personnages notamment et quelques décors réussis, contrastants avec d'autres plus vides. La fluidité, quant à elle, est perfectible.

Pour conclure, Curse of the Sea Rats est un bon Metroidvania, qui a ses défauts, comme ses qualités. Il est loin d'être parfait. Et souvent, c'est la jouabilité qui est imparfaite. Rendant l'aventure frustrante par moments. Entre les ennemis sacs à PV, les sauts imprécis, ou les combats laborieux, difficile de prendre du plaisir tout au long de l'aventure. Et même, une fois le jeu en main, on arrive à se faire surprendre par la jouabilité. Certes, l'exploration est très belle, avec de nombreuses zones variées. Mais ça ne suffit pas à apprécier, comme on le devrait, ce Ratoidvania.

Curse of the Sea Rats es un título que tiene muchos claroscuros. No se mueve en sendas intermedias, teniendo partes técnicamente muy buenas que a simple vista parecen de un título de grandísima calidad, y otras partes que no están, para nada,  a la altura. Como hemos dicho el movimiento del personaje rompe mucho la experiencia, las pantallas de carga están excesivamente presentes, los “crasheos” a pesar de reinstalarlo varias veces y demás son puntos demoledores en un juego de este tipo . Es una pena porque Curse of the Sea Rats tenía mimbres para ser un grandísimo juego, pero se queda en el intento.

Curse of the Sea Rats, bautizado como ratoidvania por su estudio creador, es un metroidvania bastante estándar. Destaca por el diseño de personajes dibujados a mano y exquisitamente animados, y por ofrecer cooperativo a cuatro jugadores, algo no muy típico en el subgénero. A pesar de su interesante premisa, su ejecución no ha acabado de ser perfecta. Son muchos pequeños detalles que el usuario puede decidir ignorar y disfrutar de la aventura o pueden estropearle un poco la experiencia. Aún así el juego divierte y engancha, por lo que no podemos más que recomendarlo.

En conclusión, Curse of the Sea Rats tiene algunas características interesantes y únicas, además de originales, pero no cumple del todo con las expectativas. Si bien la premisa, el estilo visual y la banda sonora son atractivos, los problemas técnicos que he encontrado junto con el combate tan desequilibrado ha provocado que mi experiencia no termine por ser muy divertida. Y me da rabia pensar de esta manera porque es un juego que podría ofrecer mucho más y lo pueden conseguir todavía, tiene mucho potencial, ganas y un desarrollo con unos profesionales increíbles, pero de momento te espera una aventura funcional y entretenida más.

Many of the problems I ran into have been or will soon be patched according to the developers, but unfortunately it was a tad too late to not paint my experience at least a little bit. Overall, Curse of the Sea Rats is a game I think has a lot of potential, but the samey characters and bugs hold it back from being what it seems like it really could be. If you're really itching for a new metroidvania experience, or just really like rats for some reason, you could definitely do a lot worse than this one, but I sadly cannot say I would recommend you dash to the eshop as fast as you can for it.

Há alguns lugares interessantes na forma como compõem um mundo diversificado, mas nenhum deles é impressionante e a exploração não é sempre recompensadora.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a competent 2.5D Metroidvania that offers an absolutely delightful style. The story and gameplay are basic at best, with design oversights and shallow combat that unfortunately drive this simple narrative. Still, the small package comes with a fun four-player coop that complements the classic cartoon animation and critters throughout the journey. This platformer won’t rattle the scene, but it’s a great game for families to play.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a game that has that classic 2D animation charm, with its character design and voice acting, but the same cannot be said about the game’s gameplay which seems to not be that fleshed out and is too heavily built around its co-op. If you want to experience the game at its best, play it with a friend or younger sibling, otherwise, you won’t have the most enjoyable experience.

And while its four protagonist set up is a neat touch, it can be a grind to upgrade skills if you do decide to change. Still, fans of the genre are likely to enjoy their time with it.

Si queréis entretener a vuestros peques o queréis una aventura sencilla y entretenida a la vez, Curse of the Sea Rats es un muy buen título con el que introducirlos al género metroidvania sin perder la esencia de los mismos.

I pirati di Curse of the Sea Rats navigano su una splendida imbarcazione che però sta affondando per via delle mille falle. Il titolo è gradevole da vedere ma l'esperienza è piatta, sbilanciata e poco stimolante da giocare. Un peccato, vista la varietà di abilità, le possibilità di personalizzazione e tutta la serie di ottime scelte inserite tra poteri, skill e miglioramenti. Speravamo che i topi antropomorfi di Petoons Studio ci facessero innamorare di nuovo di altri pirati non umani e invece ancora una volta, come nel più classico di cliché, il primo amore non si scorda mai, caro Captain Claw.

Aside from some decent presentation, Curse of the Sea Rats doesn't do much to innovate the crowded metroidvania genre but it's a solid example of the genre and provides a degree of fun to go with some of the frustration.

Curse of the Sea Rats ha pasado por un duro y prolongado proceso creativo para finalmente convertirse en el “Ratoidvania” que tenemos entre manos. La evolución desde su Kickstarter hasta el producto final es incuestionable, pero aun así, no fue suficiente para solapar las asperezas técnicas presentes; controles imprecisos, animaciones frígidas, toneladas de bugs. Un popurrí de fallos que eclipsan la que podría haber sido una divertida aventura familiar, y es que su modo cooperativo con la ambientación tan Disney le sientan de maravilla. Curse of the Sea Rats tiene mucha personalidad, y un arte indiscutiblemente atractivo, pero la ejecución no es del todo al deseada. Se siente como una montaña rusa por momentos divertida, pero no tardara demasiado en perderse aquella emoción inicial. Pese a ello, es una buena alternativa para quienes desean acercarse al genero Metroidvania.

The potential for Curse of the Sea Rats was high, and the opening moments were exceptionally promising. Unfortunately, it fails to encourage players to explore the world with repetitive questlines and a lack of skills. The diverse cast does little to move the narrative in any way, which is a shame because they have the potential to be more than pallet swaps. Still, the experience is gorgeous, and the combat animations deliver a nostalgic punch to keep you pressing forward.

Curse of the Sea Rats takes some good ideas for gameplay systems but fumbles them in the execution. As a Metroidvania, it could be a good entry point and if it is, it can only go up from here. However, the animation that is in the game and the music does make a pirate life one for me, just not an overall great one.

Unresponsive controls get in the way of an otherwise enjoyable callback to 16-bit platformers in Curse of the Sea Rats.

I really wanted to have fun with Curse of the Sea Rats after seeing a couple of videos for the game. The art style is solid, and the soundtrack is also very good. Unfortunately, in my case, I thought that the control scheme was too stiff for its own good and rendered the experience way harder than it should have been – and ultimately, completely things for me. The devs are working on a patch to fix some stuff, so hopefully, things will work out.

Curse of the Sea Rats is ultimately a perfectly average game marred by some poor design choices, like instant-death chasms and repetitive forest and cave areas. The trap-filled final dungeon finds the game at its best and most inventive, and is a joy to fight through and navigate, but it also emphasizes what’s missing everywhere else. Rats!

Curse of the Sea Rats is disappointing. It’s a pretty bland Metroidvania. It has a unique visual style, but its gameplay completely relies on its multiplayer option to hide its shortcomings. The game also needs a bit more polish. I was immediately very excited when I booted up the game, but I quickly soured. If the visual style wasn’t so interesting, and there wasn’t a multiplayer option the score would be a lot lower. Only play Curse of the Sea rats if you love the idea of a simple 4 player Metroidvania.

Aside from its impressive hand-drawn animation, Curse of the Sea Rats is at its best a mediocre game that does little to stand out from the innumerable alternatives. At its worst, it’s tedious, grating, and unfun. Maybe if you love traditional animation and rats you’ll find something to enjoy here, but I’d wait for a discount before considering Curse of the Sea Rats.

The core of Curse of the Sea Rats is a solid if unexceptional Metroidvania, and that core makes the majority of a playthrough enjoyable. At the moment, however, the game needs a little more time in the oven. Some bugs and design choices could use ironing out, and completionists are going to have a bad time until the game’s finale is hopefully shored up. It's easy to accept certain quirks and minor failings while ticking the map close to completion, but it's hard to recommend Curse of the Sea Rats when it has the potential to run completely aground.

Es un trabajo hecho con cariño, especialmente en lo artístico. Los más avispados verán claros homenajes a la Disney de antes y a un buen puñado de series y películas aclamadas por la cultura pop. Con un poco más de profundidad en el control —quién sabe si hubiera estado mejor hacer un solo personaje complejo en lugar de cuatro algo básicos— y algo más de testeo, estaríamos hablando de uno de los grandes search action del año.

Curse of the Sea Rats’ charmingly nostalgic art direction can only partially hide a Metroidvania whose mechanical shortcomings are numerous, and whose substandard technical stability is irredeemable in its launch state.

So whilst it’s clear that a lot of effort went into Curse of the Sea Rats, the game really needs a significant amount of fine tuning. Similarly, there are a variety of great ideas included within it, but these need expanding on and fleshing out further to ensure this one turns into something that is truly brilliant. At present, Curse of the Sea Rats simply feels unremarkable. 

Curse of the Sea Rats is a truly beautiful Metroidvania-like, with stunning, hand-drawn characters, a charming story, and an intriguing world. Unfortunately, its sluggish controls and input delay hold it back, making this swash-buckling bonanza feel more punishing than it needs to be.

Despite my many gripes, I think there is still an audience out there for Curse of the Sea Rats. Sure, it’s packed to the rafters with frustrating design choices that should have been made to walk the plank, but it’s also a title that has clearly had a ton of love and passion poured into its development. That I felt compelled to stick with Curse of the Sea Rats despite the uneven gameplay is a testament to the art direction and light-hearted narrative, both of which instantly brought me back to a happy place; sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday morning, feasting on whatever sugar-laced cereal was trendy at the time, all while enjoying my favorite cartoons. While it’s not an easy sell due to its gameplay fumbles, I do still think Curse of the Sea Rats is worth a playthrough for anyone who can look past its flaws and focus on the product as a whole, which ends up being a serviceable videogame, elevated greatly by a wonderful sense of style and charm.

Curse of the Sea Rats is a game that fails to justify itself. For all the work that went into the beautiful art and the concept of mouse pirates, the game would very likely have been better off as a visual novel instead of an action-platformer with unambitious gameplay.
